Sticky Date Pudding

200g dates, pitted and chopped
1tsp bi-carb soda
1 1/4 cups boiling water
50g butter
2/3 cup brown (or raw) sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cup SR flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract/essence

Sauce
300g brown sugar
1 cup cream
100g butter
100mL brandy
1/2 tsp lemon juice
